In a previous post, I asked for you to update us on YOUR lives. This blog is not meant to be a one-way communication. A number of you have emailed us and given us updates and Deb and I have so appreciated them. In fact, we would welcome them on an ongoing basis, but even if you are willing to do a one-time-only, that would be a treat too!
Our world out here is pretty limited and while your tomato picking might seem mundane and uninteresting to you, to us staring out a window and living in an endless loop of apartment < > hospital, that cutworm would add excitement and reality to our lives.
Deb is sitting quietly in her recliner and we are about to read to one another. We had a light breakfast and due at the hospital at 1 pm today.
More later...
Vern

I teach the 3-4 yr olds at church on Sunday mornings. Due to vacations and such, there were only two little boys in class yesterday. Our Bible story was about Hannah asking God for a child, and at the end of class, we played the game "Where is Baby Samuel?" Several times I hid the 1-1/2 inch plastic babydoll around the room, and the two energetic boys were having a great time searching and finding it. Begging each time for "just one more" round, getting rowdier and sillier each time. So cute! Finally I decided to place the babydoll on top of my head, just for a giggle. As soon as I called "ready," the boys tore around the room looking everywhere... except at me. They looked and looked, with me coaching them whether they were getting 'warmer' or colder.' Not once did they look at me. It took them longer to find the doll that time, with it in plain sight on top of my head, than all the other times put together! Sort of made me feel a bit invisible and inconsequential there for a minute... LOL
ReplyDeleteIn other news... Spain won the World Cup in soccer yesterday. Someday the USA will do it!!
ReplyDeleteIn the past, our family has never followed soccer much, but since Keith played Goalie for Arlington's team this year (his first time playing soccer... his senior year!), we now understand the game a little bit. Keith's coach at ACS, Mr. Kee, also happens to be an elder at our church, and our two families go out to eat together a lot on Sundays for lunch, and we've gotten to know each other pretty well over the past year. So last Sunday and yesterday, the Kees invited us over to their house to watch the World Cup matches. Mr. Kee grew up in Europe, and is an avid soccer fan.
I find myself being especially thankful that my husband David has 'found a new friend to play with.' Why is it that it seems harder for MEN to have close buddies than for women? We women take time to hang out with girlfriends, to chat about mundane things and more intimate, important things. But I think it is much harder for men to find a friend like that. Guys are friendly acquaintenances more often than real close friends. But my David has found a true friend in Mr. Kee. :)
Anyway, we now know what a vuvuzela is... and kinda wish we didn't ... irritating sound!
Deb Darley, your Chief family loves you and cares about your successful recovery and return to PTC. School is not the same without. I'm looking forward to a lunch visit from you during the upcoming school year. As we prepare to begin a new school year, please know that you will be missed, and of course you are welcome to visit any time. xoxoxoxo Lisa
