Update- Sat evening

The night shift nurses came on and they are wonderful.

Deb's fever is down to about 101. Much better than the 103.9 !

She is setttled into her hospital bed hooked to a myriad of tubes and monitors. I have laid claim to a dorm-style pullout bed next to her and even have sheets and a blanket.

She still has ice packs and they are hoping the fever continues downward.

There is a delicate balance to get the fever down but not quench the stem cell collection process that we are heading toward.

Deb ate some veggies and bread for supper and is on oxygen. She is coughing and Doing lung clearing exercises.

I was amazed at how rapidly the pneumonia developed today. In a three hour span she went from happy as a clam to true misery. The 33 year veteran APN was very savvy at seeing the need to act decisively.Compared the the sweeter new(and inexperienced) APN the days before, I prefer the tough old veteran.

Deb' s beautiful and all natural hair is coming out like a dog with the mange. Her father died of a radiation from Oak Ridge during WWII cancer. He had straight so-so hair but when it came back, it was beautiful and wavy.Wonder how Deb' s will come back?

Thanks again for all the support and interest so many are showing in us! Blessings all!

Deb says howdy.

  1. So glad to log on and read that her fever is headed down. Its also good news that the Lord knew just when she needed a no nonsense, seasoned nurse. We know you are in good hands (spiritually and physically). I spent several nights on one of those pull out beds - it was not the bed - it was the vital signs checks that limited my sleep. Hope you both get rest and that tomorrow - the Lord's day - will dawn finding Deb much, much better!

  4. Praying for you. I hope that you are able to rest while Ms. Deb is in the hospital. I know it is hard to rest in the hospital, but you are not the only caregiver now so REST.

So sorry for the infection. Praying it is on its way and the stem cell collection can go as planned.

Stu got a terrible infection during chemo. Then he was allergic to the antibiotic they gave him - it actually made the fever worse. The infection didn't respond to it...and then they pulled out the "bazooka" antibiotics (their words, not mine). They would not give him anything to bring the fever down (stayed between 102 and 104 for days). We iced him, we rubbed alcohol on his armpits (one older nurse said it works?) He shook the bed and was miserable.
I'm so sorry Ms. Deb. Praying you are on the "upswing" and can go back to your temporary "home" soon.
