Dr B chats with Deb. He predicts several more days before the growth factor starts to kickstart the white blood count |
I've been with Deb about 20-24 hours per day here in the hospital. I occasionally take a trip down to the basement cafeteria or walk around the circular path inside all the buildings for exercise. Yesterday I stopped to read a paper down at the 'leaving the hospital' spot where all patients are delivered via wheelchair to meet their car and driver. While sitting there, a newborn was brought down in an incubator. The nurse was very much in love with the baby and it was touching to watch the nurse loving on the baby before helping put the baby in the car. A middle aged women was wheeled down and was eager to leave the hospital and get home. The only problem was that her professionally-dressed husband could not remember which of the many parking decks the car was in. She kept giving him directions via cell phone and be bungled everyone. It was so funny to overhear the conversations as she got hotter and hotter. When he finally arrived with the car I pushed her wheel chair out to the car to do my part. I would have dreaded the conversation in the car!
All day long there is a steady flow of folks in the lobby showing up to visit friends and loved ones. You can see the shocked faces of those suddenly responding to an emergency call. I so much remember the shock I was in on day one here. It's a large campus and my day one was the least competent day of my life. Therefore, as I hang out here I try to help as many lost souls as I can.
We are waiting on the docs rounds.
