The Respiratory Therapy folks have been all over Deb for several days helping her with deep breathing exercises. The device she is holding has a medical term, but we call it the 'pickle!'
Deb is getting hooked up to platelets as we speak. The whites went down but the CRP also went down. The nurse told us this is perfectly normal as we progress and that we should not be alarmed since the CRP went down. Still, we want those whites to zoom!
Last night Deb got some different meds for nausea and she had a better night's sleep. This morning she spit-bathed, got dressed and is sitting in her chair reading.
Early morning across the hall in the nutrition room is an interesting place as caregivers head over to fetch coffee, juice, and food out of the refrigerators. They allow you to keep a private stash if you desire. Deb has a few favorite standbys, like cottage cheese, stored there. Care givers get and give updates as they prepare the food. We are a lovely bunch as most have had a miserable night's sleep in the chair or couch and hair, makeup, and wrinkled clothing are standard 'hospital fashion.'
The doctors are in their weekly meeting so we hope to have news when rounds occur today.

At 09:30 am Dr van Rhee, APN Kristen, and a new APN in training walked in. Deb was sitting in her chair dressed and looking spiffy. All were excited to tell Deb how good she is looking. Kristen asked if she could rub Deb's new hair.
>Dr van Rhee stated that he thought Deb's white blood cell count would be coming up by day 12 since the stem cells were infused ( day 46 on our chart) because of a particular drug she had been given.
>Next week Deb should have a radiation consult (Nov 19-23)
>The following week Deb should have radiation treatment (Nov 26-30)
>The radiation work can all be done outpatient when Deb's numbers come up and she is released from the hospital
>The myeloma cells in Deb's sterum area are most likely a mutation of the previous cells and will likely spread to other parts of her body.

Platelets -(Normal range 150-500) a whitish colored component of blood. Low platelets=higher Woozy factor!
CRP -(Normal range = 0.0-10) An indicator of relative health. Lower is better. When the number creeps up, Deb could be getting sick.
