Friday

Deb coloring in the waiting area. Clinic life is not for the impatient!

Woozy meter was about a four today! Deb's labs were good except for whites which are still less than one. So, neutrapenia continues. The APN says her other labs indicate that her body is about to explode in creating white blood cells. We look forward to resuming normal life. Off with the mask! That means Deb's long awaited trip to our local target. Anything to get out of the condo/hospital environment. Bad case of cabin fever!

The PET scan scheduled for today was rescheduled because Deb had to have another infusion that contained sugars. That messed up her fast which the PET requires, so it had to be moved. Seems like cancer cells crave sugar and they use the fast with a radioactive sugar solution to cause the cancer cells to show up on the PET scan.

We are about 10-15 years younger than many of our peers. So, relatively speaking, we are in much better shape than many classmates, for which we are so grateful. It's hard enough at our age!

Today Deb and I sat and listened to three elderly couples talking about how they handle life. Hearing issues are universal it seems. Some older caregivers are themselves in need of help. Housing is a problem since most places have stairs. All the other common issues of aging are magnified by this disease. Kidney trouble is an ever present danger. Many patients end up on dialysis.

The hospital has a team of young folks available by a quick phone call. You tell them where you need to be and they wheel you to that location. Getting around this huge campus and actually finding the next location is a daunting task for the feeble or those suffering from chemo-brain. I am a wannabe Grey Line tour guide, so I help as many as I can.

We also have many from overseas locations who also have language barriers. The hospital has translators for that need. Pretty savy bunch here!

We have an 08:45 am MRI, then 10 am in the chemo clinic. Same for Sunday. Pet on Monday.
